Project HOME to Profession
A Workforce Development Program for Low-Income Mainers
A hands-on workforce initiative helping Mainers build careers in construction, healthcare, and hospitality—starting with where they are.
Where support meets opportunity—and careers begin.
Project HOME to Profession is a workforce development program designed to empower low-income individuals affected by housing insecurity, offering a structured pathway toward meaningful employment and long-term financial independence.
Through individualized support, job training, and strategic partnerships in key industries, we help participants not just prepare for work—but succeed in it.
Charting a Path Forward, Together
No two journeys look the same—so we don’t hand out maps. We help people chart their own.
Each person brings strengths, lived experience, and unique challenges. Some are starting from scratch. Others are ready for the next step but need help getting traction. We listen, we walk alongside, and together we help chart a path toward stable employment and a more secure future.
Along the way, we provide what’s needed to keep moving forward:
- Individualized career counseling and success planning
- Driver’s education courses
- Job search and employment matching services
- Job retention and wraparound support
- Digital literacy training—plus laptops and Wi-Fi access as needed
- Task-based English language instruction for English language learners
Whether it’s writing a resume, practicing for interviews, learning how to use a computer, or navigating a system that wasn’t built for them—we meet people at the crossroads and help them find their way.
Putting the Pieces Together
Career advancement isn’t just about learning new skills—it’s about removing barriers and building trust.
For many participants, a trusted space to ask questions, build confidence, and grow can change everything.
We don’t just offer services—we help people assemble the full picture of what it takes to enter and stay in the workforce. That’s why our partnerships with Zachau Construction, MaineHealth, and Redfern Properties are so powerful: they connect participants with real opportunities and a clear path forward.
A Smarter Investment in Maine’s Workforce
Project HOME to Profession helps untapped talent join and thrive in industries that need them most. Every success story strengthens our communities, reduces strain on emergency systems, and builds a more equitable future for all.
With additional funding, we can expand this model, deepen our impact, and reach more Mainers who are ready to work—but need targeted support to get there.
